People in East Yorkshire have been urged to join the organ donor register to help the 125 patients across the region awaiting a suitable transplant match.

NHS Blood and Transplant has warned that some of those waiting on the organ donation list may not see the New Year in 2016 if they do not receive the vital transplant.

Tamara Hall, of Beverley, East Riding, is a living embodiment of the difference organ donation can make after suffering severe liver failure in 2007.

Ms Hall lost consciousness after being admitted to hospital. She awoke six weeks later to find that one liver graft had failed but a second had proved successful, despite coming from a different blood group.

Despite staying in hospital for six months, Ms Hall – who had a 10% chance of survival at one point – had been able to go home in time for Christmas.

People interested in helping can find out more at www.organdonation.nhs.uk or call 0300 123 2323, with details also available by texting SAVE to 62323.
