Eighteen illegal migrants were found hidden in a freight vehicle on a P&O ferry in Hull on Thursday.

A Home Office spokesman confirmed that all of them are now in detention and will be interviewed by immigration officers.

A P&O Ferries spokesperson said: “We can confirm that 18 migrants evaded security in Europort and travelled to Britain in a freight vehicle aboard one of our ferries.

“They were hidden in the back of a lorry on the freight deck and at no point did they come into contact with our tourist passengers. We will continue to work closely with the UK Border Force and call on Europort to strengthen security measures.”
