East Yorkshire residents are being assured that “the end is in sight” for delays caused by maintenance works on the Humber Bridge.

Motorists have been left frustrated by long delays at peak times while the work has been undertaken throughout the year on one of the region’s key transport links.

But the plan is to complete the maintenance works, which are being carried out by engineering firm Spencer Group, in February.

The essential work involves replacing steel supporting frames which connect the deck of the bridge to the towers.

In order to ensure that the bridge was not overloaded during the process, a lane had to be closed on both sides of the road, restricting the flow of traffic across the structure.

Thanking all Humber Bridge users on both sides of the river for their patience, general manager and bridge master Peter Hill said that they wouldn’t have to suffer queues for too much longer.
