A retired police chief is among 12 people from East Yorkshire given honours in the new year list.

Geoff Ogden has been awarded an MBE for services to young people and the community in Hull.

He said he was “very pleased” with the accolade but paid tribute to the many people he has worked with, saying he would not have got here without them.

The 71-year-old was in charge of Humberside Police’s CID until 1995, when he went into retirement after a 30-year police career.

But his contribution didn’t end there as he’s now in charge of the East Riding anti-drugs team and helps young people tackle their addictions. He has also had a notable input into the country’s drug laws.

Mr Ogden said he did not “get here on my own”, saying his colleagues doing volunteer work were entitled to as much attention and acclaim as him for their efforts.
