East Yorkshire’s biggest business battle, outside the boardroom at least, returns on Sunday, June 19 when hundreds of businessmen and women pull on their trainers for the KCOM Hull 10K Corporate Challenge.

Teams from Hull and East Yorkshire companies will be fighting for the right to be crowned as the region’s fastest firm.

The challenge, which is the biggest of its kind in the region, is a popular feature of the Asda Foundation Hull 10K, which is now in its seventh year.

As well as competing for the title of fastest firm, the corporate challenge runners will help raise thousands of pounds for local and national charities.

Brendon Smurthwaite, KCOM community coordinator, said: “It’s great to be involved in the corporate challenge for a fourth successive year and it’s very encouraging to see firms already coming forward to snap up a place.

“It brings an added dimension to the event and is a great opportunity for companies to promote team bonding and engage in a bit of friendly rivalry whilst raising money for very worthy causes.”

The challenge is open to teams of at least five members, with the times of the first three runners across the finish line used to calculate the winners.

The Hull 10k is organised by Run For All and forms of the lasting legacy of the late Jane Tomlinson, who raised nearly £2million by completing a series of gruelling endurance events despite being diagnosed with terminal cancer.

It is also part of the successful Asda Foundation 10K series which includes runs in Lincoln, Nottingham, Burnley, Leeds and York.

The race is supported by Asda Foundation, KCOM, Hull City Council, MKM Building Supplies, Arco, Hull Daily Mail, Viking FM, ViiSana, BananaKick, LTS and Aftershokz.

The reigning champions are AB Graphic International, based in Carnaby, near Bridlington.

Charlie Tatman, event manager for the Hull 10K organisers Run For All, said: “The KCOM Hull Corporate Challenge is a great feature of the day and it’s not surprising that some companies return year after year. A big thank you to KCOM for once again supporting the event.”
