It’s hoped the new footbridge, connecting the main shopping centre to the marina, will be complete by Easter in 2017.

Hull City Council have welcomed funding for the A63 Footbridge, linking the city centre to the marina.

It’s believed the project will be completed by Easter in 2017.

In a statement, Councillor Martin Mancey, Portfolio Holder for Energy City with responsibility for transport infrastructure, said:

“Formal confirmation of the funding for this bridge is really welcome news. I am delighted that, working with Alan Johnson, and with the support of the LEP, we have been able to persuade the Government of the importance of this project to the city, and of its completion by Easter 2017.

“Now that the Secretary of State, Patrick McLoughlin, has agreed to release the necessary funding, we will do all that we can to assist Highways England, who are managing the design and building of the bridge, to make rapid progress on its construction.

“This bridge will connect the city to its waterfront and is a critical and highly anticipated element to the success of Hull as UK City of Culture 2017, and will provide a huge boost to the year’s celebrations.

“It is also a key part of our long term regeneration plan for the city.”
