Hull folk are invited to make their own hats at workshops being held in the city ahead of the Lord Mayor’s Parade.

Hat-making workshops are running at three separate city venues before Lord Mayor Anita Harrison’s hat-themed parade on Saturday (June 20).

Councillor Harrison has issued an invite to community organisations and individuals to participate in the one-mile procession. It promises to be a pageant of colour from the moment it starts at 1pm. You can walk, cycle, dance or skate.

East Park’s pavilion in Holderness Road, Dairycoates Avenue’s Scrapstore play resource centre and Grampian Way’s The Pennine Rambler are the venues staging the hat-making sessions.

East Park’s 1pm-4pm workshops started on Saturday (June 13) and finish on Sunday (June 14). An additional weekday workshop (Wednesday, June 17) is being run between 5pm and 7.30pm.

Scrapstore is hosting evening courses from Monday to Friday between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.

The Pennine Rambler’s workshops are being held between 9am and 11am on Wednesday (June 17) and Friday (June 19).

To book a space on a workshop email Liz Dees at or ring 07981 834241. Cash prices worth £20 to £500 are being awarded to the best hats.
