A Goole man has appeared in court charged with a string of child sex offences against girls under the age of 16 in Rotherham.

Bannaras Hussain, of Kings Road in Swinefleet, is accused of 22 offences, alleged to have happened over a four-year period from 1998 to 2002.

The 35-year-old was remanded in custody at Rotherham Magistrates’ Court and is due to appear again at Sheffield Crown Court on June 24.

His brother Sageer Hussain, 29, of Bridge Close, Goole, is due to appear in court on July 9.

South Yorkshire Police say the charges are part of Operation Clover, a joint investigation into historic child sexual abuse in Rotherham, in partnership with Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and the Crown Prosecution Service.

Senior investigating officer Martin Tate says the investigation is “complex with a vast amount of work still to do”, and is urging victims of all sex crimes to come forward.

Eleven other men remain on bail in connection with the investigation.
