East Yorkshire residents keen to make their homes more energy efficient and eco-friendly can hop aboard a series of tours this month.

The Green Open Homes tours, organised by Humber and Wolds Rural Community Council and East Riding of Yorkshire Council, will visit the homes of people across the region who have already made green improvements.

These include a straw bale house and a super home that has been extensively adapted for green living.

The homeowners will provide first-hand accounts of their experiences, discussing the technologies they have used, such as solar panels and bio-mass boilers, as well as the problems and pitfalls they have encountered.

It is hoped that others will be inspired to follow in their footsteps and make more informed choices about what green technologies to use.

A minibus will take interested people to and from the modified properties on November 21 and November 28.

Councillor Symon Fraser believes the local advice could prove invaluable. He claims low-carbon, eco-friendly and cost-effective green technology is becoming a key part of meeting energy needs, saving people money on their energy bills.
