People across Hull are being urged to put their thinking caps on and get creative for this year’s Lord Mayor’s Parade.

The theme for this year’s event is Hats Off to the Lord Mayor, meaning an array of weird and wonderful headgear is sure to be on show when the parade takes place on Saturday June 20.

And as the parade in honour of Lord Mayor Councillor Anita Harrison is a green one with no motorised transport those taking part will be cycling, dancing or walking along the mile-long route through the city centre.

Those taking part are set to include community groups, residents and professional artists, with Hull Carnival Arts running a series of free workshops to help them make their hats and costumes as striking as possible.

Those judged by the Lord Mayor to be wearing the best hats will be presented with £1,400 worth of cash prizes donated by Kingstown Works Limited.

As well as the parade itself, which starts at 1pm, onlookers will be treated to music, dance and theatre shows at three performance areas between 12 noon and 4.30pm.
