Hull academics are hoping they don’t suffer writer’s block as they undertake an ambitious project to write a complete science book in one weekend.

The Book Sprint event is taking place at the Manchester Science Festival at Media City in Salford on Saturday and Sunday.

Five academics from the University of Hull are among the 12 authors from around the country taking part in the project.

The book – called Light Speed – will focus on the themes of light and colour and capture the spirit of the festival. It is hoped that the tome will also stand on its own as an interesting popular science book.

The work is being carried out with support from the Royal Society of Chemistry, which will look to publish the book once it is finished.

Members of the public can join in the fun too. They can log on to watch the scientists write their contributions in real-time as well as make suggestions for the book via Twitter using the hashtag #LightSpeed.
