Hull has been named as one of the top 10 cities in the world to visit in 2016.

The city ranks number 8 on the list, according to travel guidebook Rough Guides, ahead of Vancouver in Canada and Agra in India – home of the Taj Mahal.

With excitement building ahead of the UK City of Culture celebrations next year, the guide expects to see travellers from near and afar take advantage of the new hotels, restaurants and other tourist attractions.

It also says atmospheric old-timey pubs, 8 excellent museums and the picturesque Old Town with cobbled streets will attract a big crowd over the next 12 months, as will the September Freedom Festival, when the entire city is turned into a stage for local performers and artists to strut their stuff.

Hull is the only British city to feature in the top 10 of the worldwide rankings. Reykjavik in Iceland took top spot, followed by Mexico City in Mexico and Seoul in South Korea.
