Residents from Hull and East Yorkshire should be bracing themselves for snow this week, new Met Office forecasts suggest.

They have been warned to expect possible travel disruption as the cold snap sees the snow sweep in alongside blustery winds.

People in northern England are being urged to be especially careful when they venture out by the Met Office, whose yellow warning covers the region, including Yorkshire.

Wednesday and Thursday are likely to see the worst of the weather, with Scotland, Northern Ireland, the Midlands as well as areas of eastern England also hit.

Snowfalls of between three and 6cm are expected in higher areas of the north of England.

Public Health England’s Angie Bone said that adults of working age are most at risk this week. Dr Bone recommended people wear slip-resistant footwear, which could help stop any falls on the ice.
