Partygoers can enjoy a night out in Hull in the knowledge that it is one of the safest places in the UK.

The city has been awarded its second Purple Flag, following its first in 2012, for offering a safe and enjoyable night out.

It was applauded for the excellent relationship between the local police and other partners found on the streets after dark, from the door staff at licensed premises to the and Street Marshals.

Alcohol-related crime and violence has fallen in Hull since it received its first Purple Flag three years ago.

Inspectors for the Association of Town Centre Management, responsible for determining which towns and cities deserve recognition, carried out an inspection of the area and its night-time economy last November.

Matthew Grove, the police and crime commissioner for Humberside Police, is delighted by the award.

He says it is a reward for all the hard work that has gone into making the city centre a safer place to be.
