An opportunist thief used one of the stolen items to flee their own burglary scene in Hull this weekend.

The man made off on a black bicycle on the Hessle premises after being disturbed by the property’s owner.

Police are appealing for anyone who may have seen anything to contact them.

A male is thought to have gained access to the Barrow Lane home, where he snatched a shopping bag’s contents, between 1.30pm and 2pm on November 1.

The homeowner, who was tending her garden, confronted the thief and he made off towards Ferriby Road on bike.

The tan shopping bag contained a pink-coloured purse, travel cards, shopping goods and a black-coloured wallet.

The suspected man is believed to be clean shaven, white, aged between 19-30, 5ft 7ins in height, and of slight build. His all-blue outfit included jeans, hat and jacket which matched his two-tone rucksack.

Humberside Police have urged residents not to have their homes unlocked at any time, even when they are gardening, because opportunist thieves are so quick.
