Applications for up to 4,000 City of Culture 2017 volunteer roles have opened to help make next year’s event an overwhelming success.

Funded by a £2.85million Spirit of 2012 Trust grant, the volunteer scheme is open to people across the UK who are aged 16 and over.

Martin Green, chief executive officer and director of Hull 2017, insists that thousands of volunteers are required to help the City of Culture celebrations run smoothly and for the event to leave a lasting legacy in the city.

He said: “Hull’s volunteers will play vital roles before, during and after the city’s year of life-changing culture. This is a huge volunteering programme, with thousands of people required.

“Every individual selected will be a unique ambassador for the city of Hull and for culture.

“Their skills and development will play a major part in the legacy of UK City of Culture in Hull, as the programme has been built and designed to last for years into the future.”
