Hull workers at a personal care and household product-making firm have learned that their company is making millions of pounds worth of savings.

Along with the base at Westcarr Lane on Sutton Fields Industrial Estate – McBride’s four British factories include Barrow, Bradford and Middleton.

The Greater Manchester-based firm now says it is on schedule to execute £12 million worth of savings by next summer.

This would be split between £5 million saved in 2015 and £7 million planned for next June. It also reported that revenues were 0.3% up on the previous year.

In 2014 the company, which manufactures mouthwash, cleaning products and shampoo, shed around 400 jobs – one in four of its workforce.

Last year also saw it bring in Belgian Rik De Vos to replace Chris Bull as chief executive.

McBride’s profits soared 97% to £7.3 million from £3.7 million in the final half of 2014.

Its brands include Oven pride oven cleaner and Gentelle shampoo.
