For many Hull residents the festive season doesn’t really begin until the city’s festive lights are switched on tomorrow night.

And Thursday’s event will be followed two days later by Hull’s much-loved Victorian Christmas extravaganza.

The city’s Museum Quarter, Scale Lane and High Street will be the setting for Saturday’s seasonal spectacular.

This year, visitors will have the chance to try ice skating as well as enjoying the Santa’s Grotto, Punch and Judy shows and carriage and horse trips. A vintage bus will also be running to the free event from Hull Paragon Interchange.

As many as 10,000 people flocked to last year’s event, which takes people back through time with Victorian-dressed characters milling about the crowds.

Traditional music and children’s craft fun will add to the enjoyment of the day, which kicks off at 10am and finishes at 4pm.

Trinity Open Market’s stalls should tempt shoppers with a variety of Christmas-themed goods.
