Former Hull schoolboy Chris Hees is celebrating after being awarded a Bafta for his short animated film.

The London ceremony, hosted by Stephen Fry, saw The Bigger Picture, the film produced by Mr Hees, win the award in the British Short Animation category.

Speaking before the star-studded event at the Royal Opera House, 27-year-old Mr Hees said just being nominated for a Bafta was helping to open up new opportunities.

And the former pupil at Hull’s Malet Lambert school is now hoping to top his success at the Baftas by winning an Oscar as well.

The Bigger Picture, which tells the story of two brothers struggling to look after their elderly mother, has been nominated for an Oscar in the best animated short film category. The Oscars ceremony is due to be staged in Los Angeles on February 22.

Mr Hees grew up on Hull’s Ings estate and went on to study film and media at York St John University before returning to the city to establish a video production company.
