A former Hull schoolboy is set to rub shoulders with Hollywood stars such as Benedict Cumberbatch and Reese Witherspoon after being nominated for an Oscar.

Film producer Chris Hees has been nominated for the best animated short film Oscar and will be walking up the red carpet when the 87th Academy Awards ceremony gets under way in Los Angeles on February 22.

But before jetting off to the US, the 27-year-old, who was born and brought up in east Hull, will be heading to London’s Royal Opera House for the annual BAFTA’s ceremony on February 8 as his film, The Bigger Picture, has also been nominated for the best British short award.

Mr Hees’ film tells the tale of two brothers who are struggling to look after their elderly mum.

Hull film fans will have a chance to see The Bigger Picture when it is screened at the Kardomah94 venue on Alfred Gelder Street at 6pm on Wednesday January 21.
