People in Hull are being invited to show off their gardening achievements as part of a city-wide competition.

Hull In Bloom 2015, which launches on 6 April, lets residents, schools, community groups, allotment holders, pubs and businesses battle for a host of green-fingered honours in no less than nine categories.

There will be awards for the best contribution to wildlife, best garden and best planted container or hanging basket, plus a new category to find the best shed in the city.

The other awards will be handed out for the best display by a pub, best display by a commercial organisation, best allotment garden, best display by a community group and best display by a school.

Gardeners of all ages and abilities are invited to submit their favourite display of flowers, plants and greenery.

The competition is free to everyone but entries must be submitted by 30 June. Judging will take place in the seven areas of the city until 24 July, when the best entries will be put forward to be judged in the Hull In Bloom Final from 27 July.
