A weekend pop concert in Hull panned over social media for staging “one-hit wonders” and “has-beens” has been cancelled – due to a lack of interest.

Bill Blenkarn, West Park Party’s organiser, had only sold 1,000 of the 3,000 tickets he estimated were required for Saturday July 11. Mr Blenkarn, who said he was hurt by the social media posts, claims to have lost £200,000 as a result of the cancellation.

The line-up included headliners Aswad, Sinitta, Labrinth, Union J and Ella Eyre.

He could not pinpoint why the idea failed, and claimed the concert had attracted several non-Hull music lovers.

These included Helen Bammar Bell, who messaged her “disappointment” on Facebook saying she and a group of friends and family had booked tickets from South-West England.

Tweets dubbed the gig’s £30 ticket price “too expensive” to see “one-hit wonders” and “has-beens”.

Ticket holders have been promised a complete refund.
