A home exchange event for social housing tenants in Hull has been hailed a success by the council.

More than 60 households attended the mutual exchange meeting at Hull City Hall on October 14.

A mutual exchange is where council or housing association tenants swap homes with each other with the agreement of their landlords.

Some 23 families registered with the scheme, while other residents searched for properties during the session, which was held in partnership with House Exchange, a national mutual exchange website.

The council also received interest in properties that are harder to let. As a result, four viewings for potential house swaps are now under way.

Councillor John Black says it is very encouraging to have so many tenants interested in the scheme and he hopes it will result in them finding the home of their choice.

The success of the event proves that by working together with House Exchange the council can make a difference for tenants wanting to move via a mutual exchange, he adds.

He is encouraging people to consider the benefits of swapping and seek advice from their landlord if they would like to move home.
