A lollipop lady from Hull is putting down her stick today after 26 years’ patrolling the same school crossing in the city.

Linda Bromby, 65, has helped thousands of children cross the road twice a day outside Eastfield Primary School on Anlaby Road.

Her first day on the job was 13 February 1989. She has become a familiar face with students and teachers alike over the years, helping generations of families cross the road safely come rain or shine.

Linda says her final day will be a sad one but acknowledges now is the right time for her to retire.

Councillor Rosie Nicola, Portfolio Holder for Learning, Skills and Safeguarding Children, says lollipop staff are worth their weight in gold.

She urges anyone who thinks they would be a good addition to the school crossing patrol to come forward and register their interest.
