Hull man arrested in fraud case

A man has been arrested in Hull in connection with suspected £4million VAT and money laundering fraud.

Police and HM Revenue and Customs officers detained a total of 10 people – nine men and one woman – during a series of raids at addresses across Yorkshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Surrey and Counties Tyrone and Down.

They seized computers, mobile phones and cash as part of the nationwide operation. Investigations are ongoing.

The fraud is linked to the transport industry. All of the suspects have been questioned and released on bail until November.

Two men were arrested in Yorkshire – the one in Hull and another in Bradford – while two men and a woman were detained in Cambridge.

Three men were arrested in Northern Ireland, one man was arrested in Basildon in Essex and another in Runnymede in Surrey.
