Hull Marathon organisers are expecting at least a 66% increase in competitors for next year’s event compared to the 2012 run.

The 26-miles, 385-yard route attracted 1,200 athletes last year.

Phil Haskins, who is organising the event, says next year’s marathon will see upwards of 2,000 runners participating.

September 13 is the date competitors are putting in their diary.

Over 100 people registered to take part within days of the marathon route being published.

Mr Haskins believes that more than three-quarters of runners so far signed up come from the Hull region’s many running clubs.

And he is also also trying to encourage more first-timers to have a go.

Mr Hoskins says he has been “overwhelmed” with the number of entrants who have signed up already.

Key partners and the city’s regional running club members joined at the Hull Marathon’s official launch on Thursday October 23 to mark the number of entrants breaking the three-figure barrier.

Doesn’t anybody read this stuff before it goes live!
    “26-miles, 385-yard route (42.19 yards)” !!!
I bet the runners wish it was only 42.19 yards!!!

      What are you talking about?
The route is 26 miles and 385 yards long – and 1,200 runners entered last year.
      What is wrong with that?
