A breakfast with veterans is on the menu for Hull Lord Mayor Anita Harrison this weekend.

Councillor Harrison, who is also the Admiral of the Humber, is due at Barker’s Breakfast Club (BBC) on Saturday.

The pioneering 9-year-old club for ex-servicemen has sparked similar gatherings around the country and Europe. It was founded by Mr Barker and Dereck Hardman, both veterans themselves.

Mr Hardman said: “Some people find it hard to cope when they return to ‘civvy street’, and just being around people who know what they are feeling, and talking about, helps them cope. I see the BBC as important support as well as a social opportunity.”

Cllr Harrison will drop in on the weekly chat at Peter Barker’s motor engineers in Kingston Way, Stockholm Road.

Cllr Harrison said: “Raising money for ex-service personnel is one of the charities I am supporting during my year in office therefore I am very pleased to have the chance to meet local veterans at BBC.”

Breakfast is being served from 10am. All ex-servicemen are welcome from 9.30am.
