Midfielder David Meyler hopes Hull City’s fine home form can inspire them to a memorable FA Cup victory against Arsenal.

The Tigers have only lost once at home this season, but that impressive record will come under threat on Tuesday night when they welcome the Gunners to the KC Stadium for their eagerly-awaited fifth-round replay tie.

Arsenal have won the FA Cup in each of the last two seasons, having dramatically beaten Hull in the 2014 final, but Meyler sees no reason why Steve Bruce’s side cannot topple their Premier League opponents and secure a home quarter-final clash against Watford.

He said: “Obviously it’s a massive game. If we can progress we’ve got a home draw against Watford in the next round.

“Being at home at the KC Stadium, I think we’ve been beaten once at home, so obviously our home form throughout the season has been good.

“Obviously it’s against Arsenal so we know it’s going to be a tough game but we can look forward to it, and the fans can look forward to it because it’s shaping up to be a great season.”

Hull manager Steve Bruce has frequently declared that winning promotion back to the Premier League remains this season’s priority but Meyler believes that both a successful league campaign and a decent cup run is achievable.

He added: “They (league and cup success) can go hand in hand. The manager is very fortunate that he has 23-24 outfield players to select from so he can rotate the team tomorrow, give other players a chance to play, which is always good.

“You saw the performance they put in against Arsenal at the Emirates so if he does decide to go that way then I’m sure the 11 who are selected will put in a good performance.”
