Gemma Young discovered items had been stolen off her son’s grave and says it’s not the first time it’s happened.

A Hull mum’s campaigning for CCTV to be installed at the Northern cemetery, after a number of thefts from children’s graves.

Sentimental items were stolen from the graveside of Gemma Young’s stillborn son over the weekend, but she says it’s not the first time children’s graves have been targeted.

She says she doesn’t want other parents to go through the same experience:

“All we can do is provide little things, such as the plaques, little toys. They’re only cheap, but it’s meaningful and significant. The few little things that we can do for them have just been taken away.”

Gemma’s now planning on raising the money to install the cameras herself:

“I’ve got to get some surveys and just general questionnaires, get those out on the internet via social media and get whatever feedback I can from as many people as possible, to get the backing.”

She says getting the cameras installed would benefit everyone:

“I’m looking at the best things for us, not just for the baby cemetery, but for the cemetery all round. It’s not just babies that are affected by these sort of things. So I just need to get the backing from the public in the meantime, get the polls and the surveys put together so I can take them to the council and say; ‘Look, here’s the support we’ve got’.”
