Hull politicians are being told to stay on their guard after a former local UKIP candidate burst into an elected’s home and attempted to “arrest” them.

Police were called to the member’s house and told Colin Worrall to depart the area surrounding their property.

Hull City Council has sent Mr Worrall’s picture to its councillors, the Hull Daily Mail reports. It has also warned them to treat the man “with extreme caution”.

The council sent the same message to its trio of Labour MPs – Karl Turner (Hull East), Alan Johnson (Hull West and Hessle) and Diana Johnson (Hull North).

The incident happened on Tuesday (March 15) morning, which resulted in police being summoned following a confrontation and row.

Mr Worrall allegedly sent emails saying that he would arrest Hull’s councillors and MPs for “stealing” the city’s public money.

A spokeswoman for the Council said: “The concerns for the safety of members have been reported to Humberside Police and the council is considering its own position.”

A spokesman for Humberside Police said: “The suspect will be spoken to about the incident and given advice about his future behaviour. The victim has been kept informed and is content with the police action.”

Mr Worrall told Mail reporters that he sent an email but denied any incident with an elected member at their home.

Phil Webster, a Bransholme West councillor, said: “There has been clearly a lot of threatening emails to myself and my ward colleague.

“He has bombarded us, and my colleague has reported him to the police and he has said the police have already spoken to him four times because of it. We are having to be careful to make sure we look after our own security of my family.”

What was the substance of these allegations? Wouldn’t it have been easier (and less costly to the taxpayer) to debunk these accusations in a public forum?
