Primary school pupils in Hull will learn about their city’s heritage and culture from next year.

More than 40 schools in the city have commissioned the Heritage Learning team to develop the new curriculum.

Jane Avison, from Hull Culture and Leisure Limited, said: “So many exciting people have gone on to share ideas and (carry out) explorations and we just don’t know about them.

“We can raise those aspirations, tell young people about them, inspire them and then hopefully they can be the next generation to go out and make a difference.

“We want everybody talking about what is great about Hull, what’s great about its past and it’s about educating that next generation so that they can go forward and talk about the city with a real sense of pride.”
