Over 500 properties across Hull are to be given makeovers as part of Hull City Council’s efforts to improve the look of the city.

Frontage enhancements like new guttering, painting, boundary walls and fencing are on the list of things to do. Footpaths will also be renewed, while some homes will receive external solid wall insulation.

The council’s three-year plan of improvement works involves private sector properties in west and east Hull – and residents in these areas are being encouraged to attend information events over the next three months.

Councillor John Black says the events will give people a flavour of the works to be undertaken, which he hopes will have a positive knock-on effect in terms of job creation and reduced anti-social behaviour.

The modifications will be carried out with the help of the council’s partners, costing around £5.1 million – a mix of council and Local Growth Funding – in total.

In addition to frontage improvements, homes in Walliker Street and Granville Street will also receive external solid wall insulation thanks to Energy Company Obligation funding provided by NPOWER, making them more energy efficient.
