Rail passengers in Hull are among the most satisfied in the country, according to new figures.

A survey by Transport Focus – formerly Passenger Focus – reveals satisfaction was as high as 96% for travellers on First Hull Trains, which operates long-distance services between the city and King’s Cross in London.

The independent watchdog polled 31,000 rail travellers up and down the country to gage public opinion.

Overall, the proportion of passengers satisfied with their journey has fallen slightly from 82% in spring last year to 80% in spring this year. Delays and cancellations were two of the main passenger gripes.

While satisfaction on First Hull Trains was 96%, it was 72% on Southern and 74% on Govia Thameslink.

Abellio Greater Anglia (75%), Southeastern (75%) and Northern Rail (79%) also scored well below average.

Not far behind First Hull Trains were Heathrow Express and East Coast, which both achieved a satisfaction score of 94%. Merseyrail was also near the top with 91%, followed by Grand Central with 84%.
