Parking costs for some Hull residents could be set to double as part of new plans being announced later this month.

A resident parking permit would increase in selected areas from £7.50 to £20 per annum.

But residents will be able to have the final say on the price hike.

A consultation due to start this month will ask the 28,000 households affected if they want to keep or scrap their controlled parking zones.

If they choose the former option, the new charges will come into force.

Hull City Council officials say that annual permit prices have been pegged at the same cost for many years and that residents pay far less than several other cities.

The permit enables households in zones outside Hull’s city centre to leave their vehicles on roads without being subjected to parking enforcement.

Such control makes it easier for residents to park near their own homes in congested areas.
