Hull plans to have its own cruise terminal and riverside berth.

City officials are looking for private developers to deliver the plan, which, it says, would be worth an annual £13 million to the city’s economy.

Three possible riverside berth sites are being looked at, with Sammy’s Point the favourite. Situated beside the popular The Deep tourist attraction, councillors say this would be sufficiently near to Hull city centre for cruise-goers to walk into town.

Alexandra Dock has also been shortlisted. But the Liberal Democrat contingent on Hull City Council raised objections to the new project bring positioned anywhere in between these two options, which they say would impact upon Victoria Dock’s residential district.

Councillors said that details of the plan would be finalised once developers had been chosen.

Steven Bayes, a city councillor, said that such a port would give Hull a “long-term legacy”.
