Britain’s best-loved rail operator, Hull Trains, has proven that, as well as topping national league tables for performance, it can also beat off international competition to win prestigious awards for safety, teamwork and community investment.

Hull Trains’ parent company, First Group, is the leading transport operator in the UK and North America, providing transport to 2.4 billion people daily and employing 110,000 employees across five different divisions. The international conglomerate ran the awards across all its divisions to find the very best performers in a variety of categories.

Hull Trains scooped the winning award for its dedication to safety and the continual improvements it makes, beating off competition from other larger rail operators worldwide.

The company has a strong track record in reducing accidents on-board which have decreased by a massive 53% in the past 18 months. Just as impressive is Hull Trains’ management of major accidents. Last year the company made 850,000 passenger journeys with zero major accidents occurring.

Will Dunnett, Managing Director of Hull Trains says: “It’s very rewarding to be recognised within the wider First Group for our safety performance. The safety of our passengers is a top priority and we will always go the extra mile to ensure this.”

The Hull Trains team were also runners-up in the First Group’s ‘Communities’ category and its’ on-board staff were runners-up in the ‘Supportive of each other’ category. This rewards teams that create an atmosphere of respect, energy and enthusiasm, inspiring confidence to be the best.

Hull Trains was also voted the UK’s leading rail operator for passenger satisfaction for the past two successive years in the well-regarded National Passenger Survey. The company has seen exceptional growth, beginning with three daily services and 80,000 passengers in 2000. In 2016, the company will carry over one million passengers and mark its 12th millionth passenger journey.

Hull Trains is one of the most innovative and dynamic rail operators in the UK and has introduced a number of industry-first initiatives in the past year to continue to improve passenger comfort, fleet performance and customer satisfaction.
