Hull University’s plan to provide on-campus accommodation for over 500 students looks likely to be approved by city councillors.

The six planned residential blocks would each have their own internal courtyard and be a maximum of seven storeys tall, a planning application submitted to the council said.

It has been proposed that the 562-bed sustainable accommodation in Cottingham Road, which is adjacent to Inglemire Lane, will be built next to Newlands Science Park.

City councillors have agreed to the plan “in principle” and conditional approval has been recommended.

Hull City Council particularly liked the idea of students being offered accommodation next to their classes.

The blocks will include “communal hubs” where students can socialise as well as a coffee outlet and laundry.

The 92 flats would be split into accommodation offering between one and eight bedrooms, while the courtyards would offer decent natural light, according to the plan.
