More resources to assist Hull victims and reporters of domestic violence have been promised over Christmas.

This extra support will rise across the month and into the start of the new year to reflect the traditional stresses put on relationships over the festive period.

It should help support agencies as well as officers from Humberside Police to respond at once to calls of this nature.

The assistance will include directing all parties to relevant expert confidential and free support services where necessary – some with no police involvement if required.

Whether you know someone who is being violently abused at home or are a victim yourself, you can call 01482 318 759 to speak to the city Domestic Abuse Partnership’s team.

Detective Inspector Craig Nicholson, a police officer responsible for combating domestic violence, said that this time of year is stressful for all concerned.

Mr Nicholson said he wants everyone to acknowledge that domestic violence is unreasonable and will be punished through the courts.
