Hull city centre’s Carr Lane has closed to traffic for four months as vital work to reconstruct the damaged carriageway takes place.

Hull City Council has worked with bus companies in a bid to keep disruption to a minimum.

Councillor Martin Mancey says the Carr Lane work is an essential element of the public realm improvements.

He said: “The structure, not just the surface, but the actual foundations of the road are failing. If work isn’t done soon the road itself will break up and there will be safety hazards associated with it.

“We’re not just taking off the surface, but actually excavating down to a depth of about 800mm and then putting in a new construction which should last at least twenty years, probably a lot longer than that.”
