A report published today shows how Hull’s digital economy is constantly expanding.

Hull’s digital economy is worth almost £7 billion, one of the fastest growing in the UK, according to a new report.

It currently employs 57,000 people locally and is expected to grow even further to support local businesses.

Jonathan Leafe from Hull company Strawberry online marketing says the local digital industry is thriving:

“Hull has always been a digital hub, I just don’t think people have realised it. There are some really world-class businesses and they’re completely 100% digital, they have to be to do what they do. I mean, what they do is fantastic, and yet a lot of people don’t know about it. Hull has always been at the forefront of this type of economy.”

He says the area has a very “go ahead” attitude:

“Businesses in Hull and East Yorkshire have always been that way inclined. We’ve always got some very forward-thinking businesses; Ones that want to do something different, and ones that really want to develop themselves and they will always embrace what’s new.”

Mr Leafe is even more optimistic about the future:

“This is the tip of the iceberg. I think probably what you will see now is that whilst we would consider ourselves to be a virtually 100% digital business, it’s not just what we do, it’s how we operate and I think that’s whats’s going to happen. So I think probably, the digital economy will explode.”
