The city’s first City Farm has officially been opened off Beverley Road.

The project is part of Hull’s City Plan and allows residents to grow their own food, helping them to make their money go further.

It also promotes healthy living, positive well-being and gives an insight into how to cook the produce they make.

Recycling Unlimited also hope to use the City Farm as a hub for similar green activities as it will be an educational green space in the middle of a densely populated area.

Councillor Alan Clark, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhoods and Communities, said:

“We are excited to announce the launch of Hull’s first City Centre Farm. This is a significant step for the city and it will provide opportunities to develop skills and knowledge to grow fresh food, promote healthy and affordable food choices, all critical to making money go further whilst maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

“The City Farm is open to everyone and has transformed an under used brown field site into a vibrant green space that will inspire people to grow their own fresh food, and promote affordable healthy eating”.

Eddie Brooks, CEO of Recycling Unlimited, said:

“I am delighted to be announcing the official launch of Hull’s first City Centre Farm. Since starting on site in March this year, our staff and volunteers have been busy with the considerable task of clearing the site and preparing it for the growing season, and we are now looking forward to working with other partners and the local community to develop the project further to establish the City Farm as a hub for green activity across the city.

“We are looking for great ideas for activities that we could hold here and would welcome all creative suggestions. Come along at any time between 1 and 2pm on Friday 26 June and find out for yourself, or get in touch on 01482 343 726 to find out more”.
