Hull’s Liberal Democrat leader has criticised Hull City Council’s plans to fluoridate the city’s drinking water.

The council met earlier this week to discuss fluoridation and decided to continue exploring the option.

The proposals aim to fight tooth decay after Hull emerged as one of the worst cities in the country for dental health in children.

But Mike Ross, Hull’s Liberal Democrat leader, has criticised the plans, saying the focus needs to change to educating children about dental health.

He said: “It’s really concerning at the meeting how unclear this whole issue was and who will end up paying for it. But it does look like we’re talking in the millions. Certainly, big figures, to get the programme set up in the first place and then the on-running costs, year on year, being several hundred thousand pounds as well.

“We would rather see more done to educate people on the importance of dental health and how to actually keep their teeth clean rather than adding fluoride to the water and thinking the problem will be solved overnight.

“These fluoridation proposals should be dropped now and more done to help those who need the help most.”

“The evidence that fluoride is more harmful than beneficial is now overwhelming… fluoride may be destroying our bones, our teeth, and our overall health.” –

“”I do not believe there is any valid scientific reason for fearing adverse health conditions from the consumption of water fluoridated at the optimal level.”
–Dr. John Doull, Chair of that 2006 National Research Council that you cited above.

No one has ever been harmed by drinking water with 0.7 ppm of fluoride in it. If I am wrong, please provide one documented example of harm to any human being because they drank optimally fluoridated water.

Fluoride causes lowered IQ and ADHD in children.

The EPA has now classified fluoride as a neurotoxin (nerve and brain poison). Also, the world’s most renowned medical journal, “LANCET,” in 2014 reported that fluoride is a neurotoxin in the same category as mercury, lead and arsenic.

Fluoridation causes enamel damage (dental fluorosis) in 41% of all children (CDC data) and has also been shown to lower IQ in children with 50 research studies. Now it has been proven to cause ADHD, as reported in the “Journal of Environmental Health” (by Malin & Till, 2015).

A 2015 study from England’s University of Kent found that drinking water with added fluoride can wreck your thyroid, and lead to weight gain and depression.

Colgate has just announced a Fluoride-Free toothpaste to help young children avoid these health issues.

So that’s a “No.” You can’t cite one documented case of anyone who has ever been harmed by drinking optimally fluoridated water, . . even for as much as a lifetime. Right?

Fluoridation is now reported to cause diabetes.

Why is diabetes a growing epidemic in the United States (74% fluoridated)? Incidence rates have nearly quadrupled in the past 32 years and show no signs of stopping.

Read this recent article, “Fluoride consumption linked to diabetes,” from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, published in the “Journal of Water and Health” and also “Endocrine Today.”
