A series of problems with the building have postponed the demolition.

The demolition of the New York Hotel in Hull’s city centre has been delayed.

It’s due to the discovery of asbestos and structural concerns over the building.

A contingency plan is now being prepared, and Hull City Council say they’re willing to undertake the work if the owners decide not to.

City Planning Manager Alex Codd said in a statement:

“The council has been in regular dialogue with the owners of the New York Hotel who are seeking to demolish the New York Hotel and were on site with the owners’ representatives on the 16th April where a number of additional concerns with the property were brought to the fore.

“Due to the risks associated with Asbestos and the structural safety of the building, specialist contractors are required to undertake the work.

“The council are also preparing a contingency plan and are commencing a tendering process to undertake the works ourselves should the owner choose not to.”
