A Hull women’s centre has received a £75,000 grant, helping it to continue providing support to hundreds of women across the city every year.

Preston Road Women’s Centre assists women and children affected by domestic abuse and violence.

Ann Clarkson, centre co-ordinator, revealed that some of the money will be used to recruit another member of staff.

She said: “She’ll link in very closely with the work that the domestic violence team do and our housing team do as well around offering accommodation to women.

“Our domestic violence support service supports between 400 and 450 women a year. We have 90 women accommodated. We get women coming from across all social classes and from all sorts of cultures.

“I see them grow in confidence, I see them blossom and I see them bloom.  They’ll come back and they’re learning or they’re volunteering. You just see their confidence grow. It’s a fantastic job, it’s a fantastic place to work.”
