An MEP for Yorkshire and the Humber is threatening to sue Nigel Farage, according to the BBC.

The leader of UKIP faces the action in light of comments made against Amjad Bashir MEP. Mr Bashir switched from UKIP to the Conservatives in January on the same day the former revealed that his membership had been suspended.

Victoria Derbyshire’s radio programme has viewed a nine-page letter outlining a High Court libel action against Mr Farage if Mr Bashir’s conditions are not met.

Mr Bashir wants the UKIP leader to retract accusations made against him in January, besides paying costs and damages. He also wants a public apology in court and the accusations removed from UKIP’s website.

UKIP would not comment while legal activities were ongoing, except to say that it did not participate in any trials by TV.

Mr Bashir left UKIP claiming that it had become “ruthless” and selfish.

Hours before this, however, UKIP issued a statement saying it had suspended the MEP over “employment” and “financial” questions which had not been answered. Mr Bashir refuted these allegations.

Mr Farage then said that Mr Bashir’s conduct had given him increasing cause for “alarm”.
