Motorists have been told queues across the Humber Bridge will be a thing of a past when the new £7.4 million electronic toll system goes live. Those with a HumberTag account will be able to pay the toll automatically using an electronic tag.

Bridge Master Peter Hill, hopes the system will go live on November the 5th: “It’s going to remove any delays for the customers but also just that irritation of having to actually stop and hand something over again. Although the ticket system’s been very successful and very useful since the bridge opened, it does require them to stop, wind down their window in winter, hand over the ticket; that, now, is a thing of the past.

“We’ve got about seven thousand tags which, at this stage, is just what we were expecting. Once enough people have got the tags, and they’re travelling through the open road tolling, queues should be a thing of the past.”
