Humberside’s Police and Crime Commissioner says more must be done locally to support victims of crime.

The force is one of three in the country to launch an online survey, asking people to rate their experiences with the police, the court and justice system.

Matthew Grove says it is vital that victims of crime feel supported during the legal process:

“I hear a lot of concern about the court process. Our courts are built around supporting and looking after the perpetrators of crime, and the victims are very much an afterthought.

“The experience can be so traumatic that the majority of victims don’t even come forward to report. We have to change that, because unless we do the perpetrators will continue to get away with their crimes.

“The feedback we get will be carefully monitored and analysed, and hopefully it’ll help us to target the limited resources we have- and the time we have in my office- to the areas that are causing most concern and difficulty for victims.”
