A Humberside Police sergeant with 27 years’ service has been sacked for kicking a teenager in the head.

John Stevenson was dismissed without notice after being found guilty at a gross misconduct hearing on Thursday.

CCTV footage showed Sgt Stevenson kicking a 16-year-old boy in the head during an arrest on Spring Bank West on October 10 last year.

Sgt Stevenson said the boy struggled under arrest – in relation to the theft of a moped, for which he was not charged – but the hearing panel ruled that he posed no threat.

Sgt Stevenson, a father of three, claimed he was regaining his balance from the pursuit and did not realise he had made contact with Mr Heath’s head, but the panel ruled that deliberate contact was made.
