Humberside Police is to merge with South Yorkshire on a number of specialist support groups, including the police dog section.

To make the savings both forces have to make over the next two or three years, they’ll be making changes to services to become more efficient.

Humberside Chief Constable, Justine Curran, commented: “Collaboration between Humberside and South Yorkshire Police Forces is nothing new. We already share a number of specialist support functions that are co-located across both forces. We also work closely on a daily basis in the pursuit of criminals who cross our borders in order to commit crime.

“Both forces have significant savings to find over the next two to three years but our joint aim is to ensure that we maintain an appropriate level of service to the public. This is not a merger of two police forces as both will retain their separate identity and local policing teams. However, if we are to achieve these significant savings, we have to think differently, work differently and deliver our services in a more modern and efficient way.”

There are currently 12 Dog Handlers in Humberside.
