Homes in west Hull that have been without gas for three days are starting to have their supply reconnected.

Engineers from Northern Gas Networks have been working in the affected area for the past three days after a burst water pipe cut gas mains supply on Tuesday.

Approximately 400 properties in Bricknell Avenue, Burniston Road, Hartoft Road, Cropton Road, National Avenue, Appleton Road, Cloughton Grove and Langdale Avenue lost their gas supply due to the incident.

Around a dozen homes had their gas restored on Thursday night, while engineers are working to reconnect supply to the remaining properties.

Amanda White, Northern Gas Networks customer operations area manager, said on Thursday: “We’ve made good progress in pumping water from the gas network today, allowing us to switch gas back on for the first few properties.

“We’re having to tackle the process in a very methodical way – using pumps to clear each section of gas main and then restoring gas on a property-by-property basis. We’ll continue to work hard this evening and then resume tomorrow.

“Local residents continue to be incredibly patient, and we’d thank them for bearing with us. Our engineers are doing everything they can to get supplies back on as quickly as possible.”
